For the month of December, we are kicking off our Season of Solidarity, a special time to recognize, respond and reckon with the voices of the oppressed, while living within in the context of the US Empire during the winter holiday season.
The themes for each week of December will be:
- Week 1: Latin America – We will seek to listen and then and act in solidarity with the peoples of Latin America
- Day 1 – Solidarity with Cuba
- Day 2 – Religion in Cuba (for both good and bad)
- Day 3 – Solidarity with Bolivia
- Day 4 – Solidarity with the US-Mexico Border Regions
- Day 5 – Solidarity with Undocumented people in the USA
- Day 6 – A History Lesson – US military interventions in Latin America
- Day 7 – TBD
- Week 2: Military – We will seek to listen to and act in solidarity with members of the US military who are mistreated and used by the US American Empire.
- Day 8 – GI Rights – Part 1
- Day 9 – GI Rights – Part 2
- Day 10 – Conscientious Objection
- Day 11 – Secular Conscientious Objection
- Day 12 – War Resistance
- Day 13 – War Resistance around the world
- Day 14 – Veterans and the aftermath of war
- Week 3: Transportation – We will seek to learn about the ways that our consumer car culture is a tool of oppression and we will explore ways to decouple ourselves from this system.
- Day 15 – History Lesson (how the auto industry destroyed urban rail)
- Day 16 – Buses
- Day 17 – Trains
- Day 18 – Bicycles, Part 1
- Day 19 – Bicycles, Part 2
- Day 20 – Walking
- Day 21 – Conclusion/Winter Solstice
- Week 4: Food – We will seek to explore the issues of food as it relates to social justice but also community and spirituality, and of course look at ways we can act on our concerns.
